FRIGONISE

Our own product. An iPhone app that knows what is in your fridge, reminds families before food goes to waste and tells them what to cook. We took it from a blank page to a live beta: product, AI, brand, website and launch.

FRIGONISE app: home screen, receipt scan and an expiry reminder

The challenge

Every person in the European Union throws away around 72 kg of food at home each year. Families are not careless: they simply juggle three or four apps for the pantry, recipes, shopping lists and budgets, and still forget what is sitting at the back of the fridge.

The brief we gave ourselves was simple to say and hard to do: one app where the fridge keeps itself up to date, in the languages and with the supermarkets of the people who use it.

Our approach

We treated FRIGONISE as a real product, not a side project. Numbers first: a comparison with nine competing apps, a pricing model and a three-year business plan, country by country.

Then we designed and built in small blocks, put every version in the hands of real families through TestFlight, and changed what they told us to change. Product, brand and website were developed together, so they speak with one voice.

Four moves, one product.

01

We designed and built the app

A photo of the receipt, the shopping or the open fridge is enough: Squizi, the AI assistant we created for FRIGONISE, recognises the food, estimates the expiry dates and files everything into fridge, freezer and pantry. The app reminds you before something goes off, suggests what to cook from 400 local recipes, plans the week and writes the shopping list.

On top of that: a nutritionist's diet plan turned into a weekly menu with what is at home, a pantry and shopping list shared by the whole family in real time, price alerts that recognise the same product across different supermarkets, and the recycling rules of your own town. In Italian, German, French and English.

Then we made it smarter with open data: nutrition values filled in automatically from the Swiss food database, shelf lives from the USDA that update when you move food to the freezer, Nutri-Score and allergen warnings from Open Food Facts, a quiet weekly note on ultra-processed food and the CO₂ behind what gets thrown away. And an iPhone widget that keeps the fridge on the Home Screen.

02

We gave it a brand

A name that sounds like a verb and works in every language we serve. An icon where the F is drawn as the two doors of a fridge. A palette of forest green and fresh lime, two typefaces chosen for warmth and legibility, and a voice that is useful before it is clever.

And a character: Squizi, a slice of lime that winks, reads, celebrates and apologises. It replaces every loading spinner in the app and became the face of the launch on social media.

The line that sums it up: Your fridge just got a brain.

We built frigonise.com

A dark, glassy site with motion that explains itself: notifications arriving on the phone, a counter for the food Europe wastes, a timeline of the three gestures that make the app work. Real screenshots in every language, never mock-ups.

Four languages with automatic detection, a pricing page with euros and francs, an Android waitlist, and analytics that only run with the visitor's consent.

We took it to market

A clear model: free forever for the essentials, one Premium plan for the whole family with a seven-day trial. A beta on TestFlight with testers in three languages, and the launch of the Instagram and LinkedIn channels with assets designed for each.

Every decision on pricing waits for one thing: what the families using it tell us.
